Nairobi | September 30, 2026: The Standards and Quality Assurance (SQA) Department of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), led by Director of Standards and Alignment Mr Mohammed Noor, on Tuesday convened a three-day stakeholder engagement meeting to deliberate on the National Standard for Assessment and Certification of Qualifications in Kenya.
The engagement brought together representatives from the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SDTVET), State Department for Higher Education (SDHE), State Department for Basic Education (SDBE) through the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Standards (DQAS), Commission for University Education (CUE), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Strathmore University, TVET-CDACC, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB).
The engagement aims to operationalize policy and provide a common framework for the assessment and certification of qualifications in the country. The proposed framework requires assessment to be conducted by registered entities and through accredited programmes and authorised assessment centres. The proposed framework sets out requirements for assessment personnel, including appropriate qualifications, registration and licensing and demonstrated technical competence.
The team agreed to develop separate performance indicators for each qualification type to ensure a common understanding and consistent interpretation of the level descriptors.
The stakeholder engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen consistency, quality and credibility in the assessment and certification of qualifications in Kenya.
