The Kenya National Qualifications Authority this week is participating at the East African Community (EAC) partner states workshop on validation of the draft EAC TVET Framework, held from 11th to 14th August 2026 in Dar es salaam. The validation workshop is convened by the EAC Secretariat with the support of the International Labour Organization and the African Continental Qualifications Framework (ACQF-II) Team represented by Mr. Robin Phoolchund. The Partner states include: Republic of Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Uganda, Republic of Burundi, Republic of South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Rwanda and Federal Republic of Somalia.
This critical engagement aims at advancing the harmonization of Technical and Vocational Education and Training systems across the EAC Partner States. The need for a robust EAC TVET Qualifications Framework is driven by the imperative to facilitate free movement of labour, enhance skills mobility, and boost employability in line with the EAC Common Market Protocol (particularly Article 11 on the harmonization and mutual recognition of academic and professional qualifications).
The framework removes barriers to labour mobility, supports the recognition of skills and competencies across borders, and contributes directly to the four freedoms of the Common Market especially the free movement of persons and labour.
The initiative is also strongly aligned with the African Union Continental TVET Strategy (2025–2034), which emphasizes transforming TVET for employability, sustainable development, innovation, industrialization, and alignment with Agenda 2063 and the AfCFTA. It promotes quality, relevant, inclusive skills development, mutual recognition of qualifications, and stronger industry linkages.
Finalization of the EAC TVET Qualifications Framework, is an important aspect to creation of atransparent, trusted, and comparable qualifications system region-wide. KNQA continues to champion a transparent, trusted, inclusive, and comparable qualifications system that boosts employability, lifelong learning, mobility, and sustainable economic growth for East Africa.
