Kenya Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (KCATS)
The KNQF Act No. 22 of 2014 established the KNQA to facilitate articulation, classification, registration, accreditation, quality assurance, monitoring, and evaluation of national qualifications. Further section 8(1) (L) of the KNQF Act provides for facilitation of linkages, credit transfers, and exemptions, vertical, horizontal & diagonal mobility at all levels. A robust credit-based learning framework is essential for fostering inclusivity, accessibility, and continuous education.
KCATS is designed to Monitor, record and maintain student achievement and progress through modular certificate, Diploma and Degree courses Facilitate recognition, comparability and transferability of periods of study thus enhances student mobility Facilitate progression: – entry, re-entry and exit between and within QF levels, courses and institutions. KCATS envisages to transfer learners through; Sectorial approach, Inter institutional transfers, Program to program and Level to level (Vertical, Horizontal and Diagonal).
