Strategic Engagement
The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with institutions of higher learning to enhance the quality, recognition, mobility, and relevance of qualifications in Kenya.
During a strategic engagement held at the KNQA headquarters, the Authority, led by Council Chairperson Hon. Stanley Kiptis and Director General/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Alice Kande, hosted a delegation from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo.
Key Milestone
A major highlight of the meeting was the official presentation of MMUST’s Certificate of Registration as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB). The registration marks a significant milestone for the university, formally recognizing its mandate to award qualifications within the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF). It also reinforces the Authority’s commitment to promoting quality-assured, nationally recognized qualifications that enhance learner mobility and global competitiveness.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore strategic areas of collaboration aimed at advancing Kenya’s education and training sector.
Recognition of Prior Learning

Expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training opportunities.
Micro-Credentials
Implementation and recognition of micro-credentials.
Research & Capacity Building
Collaborative research and capacity building on KNQF progression pathways.
The two institutions also deliberated on strengthening coordination in qualifications recognition and supporting the implementation of innovative learning pathways that respond to the evolving needs of learners, employers, and industry.
Youth Empowerment & Skills Development
Youth empowerment and skills development featured prominently during the discussions, with both parties emphasizing the need to expand access to quality education and training opportunities that equip young people with competencies for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
The meeting emphasized the critical role of the KNQF in facilitating qualifications recognition, learner progression, credit transfers, and skills mobility across different education and training pathways.
KNQA’s Commitment
Speaking during the meeting, the KNQA leadership reiterated the Authority’s commitment to fostering partnerships with universities and other education and training providers to strengthen the implementation of the KNQF and promote a qualifications system that is transparent, credible, quality, and responsive to national development priorities.
The engagement reflects KNQA’s continued efforts to work collaboratively with stakeholders in building an integrated qualifications system that supports lifelong learning, enhances workforce competitiveness, promotes innovation, and contributes to the realization of Kenya’s social and economic transformation agenda.
As the national custodian of the KNQF, the Authority remains committed to ensuring that qualifications awarded in Kenya meet national and international standards while creating seamless pathways for learning, skills recognition, and career progression.
