  • KNQA Convenes Stakeholders to Validate the National Assessment and Certification Policy and Standard

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) today convened a high-level Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop on the proposed National System for Assessment and Certification of Qualifications in Kenya, focusing on two pivotal draft instruments: the National Policy Framework and the National Standard on Assessment and Certification of Qualifications.

The forum featured insights from key regulators including Prof. Mike Kuria, CEO – Commission for University Education (CUE); Mr. Timothy Nyongesa, DG – Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA); Mr. Peter Njiru, Representing the CEO – National Industrial Training Authority (NITA); Ms. Violet Mundia, Representing the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Standards in Basic Education; and CEO – KNQA Dr. Alice Kande.

The Workshop was opened officially by the Chairperson – KNQA Hon. Stanley Kiptis; and the Principal Secretary State Department for TVET – Dr. Esther Muoria, represented Eng. Joseph Njau.

The proposed National Policy and Standard set uniform minimum quality-assurance benchmarks for assessment and certification across Kenya’s entire education and training landscape.

They are designed to strengthen credibility, comparability, transparency and portability of qualifications, enable seamless learner progression, build greater confidence in the labour market, and secure wider national and international recognition for Kenyan qualifications.

The workshop also drew representatives from relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, Qualifications Awarding Bodies (QABs), professional associations, assessment agencies and key industry stakeholders. This broad, whole system participation underscores KNQA’s commitment to collaborative governance in Kenya’s qualifications ecosystem.

The successful validation exercise underscores a major milestone towards operationalizing a coherent, credible and nationally trusted assessment and certification system firmly anchored in the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF).
